Easiest weather and road window for this halt.
Srinagar
Lakes, gardens and a city that still knows how to take an afternoon slowly. Come for the water; stay for the light on the hills.
Enough nights to see the place, not only the postcard.

How Srinagar was shaped
Srinagar grew as a Mughal summer capital around Dal Lake. Shikaras, gardens and wooden houses still follow that lakeside plan, even as the city has become Kashmir’s main halt.
What draws people here
A shikara dusk, a garden walk and kahwa in the old city explain Kashmir faster than any viewpoint list. Use it as a soft landing before Gulmarg or the valleys.
Best time to visit
April–June for gardens and pleasant days. December–February for snow; pack for wet cold. Plan about 4–6 days and keep one morning empty.
What to stand in front of
Dal Lake
A shikara hour at dusk is the city’s softest introduction.
Mughal gardens
Terraces, chinar shade and a slower Srinagar than the boulevard.
Old city walks
Woodwork, spice lanes and kahwa stalls if you wander with a local.

Gulmarg day trip
Meadows or snow, depending on the month — pack for both.
