Easiest weather and road window for this halt.
Ladakh
High passes, butter tea, and a sky that feels closer than the next town. This is a trip you plan around roads and weather, then remember as silence.
Enough nights to see the place, not only the postcard.
North India — Adventure
Keep this character when you host or request the trip.
How Ladakh was shaped
Ladakh sat on the old silk and salt routes between Tibet, Kashmir and the plains. Buddhist kingdoms left monasteries on ridges; later it became a high-altitude frontier that opened to visitors only in the 1970s.
What draws people here
Go for the roads, the silence, and a landscape that does not look like the rest of India. Pangong, Nubra and the passes reward anyone who can take it slow and sleep early.
Best time to visit
June–September for open roads. May and October are quieter but colder, and some passes close. Plan about 6–10 days and keep one morning empty.
What to stand in front of
Pangong Lake
A long blue sheet of water that makes the drive feel worth every hairpin.
Nubra Valley
Sand dunes, double-humped camels and a high-desert quiet you will talk about later.
Magnetic Hill & monasteries
Prayer flags, butter-tea kitchens and roads that look like film stills.
Khardung La approach
The classic high-pass day — start early, carry layers, go slow.
